Position Overview
We are seeking a EHS Coordinator (1st Shift) to support the company’s safety and risk management efforts, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations while building and maintaining a safe and healthy work environment. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about promoting safety in a fast-paced heavy fabrication and defense manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement safety programs to support a zero-injury workplace culture.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations specific to heavy steel fabrication and shipbuilding operations.
- Provide first aid/CPR during emergencies and monitor ill workers until medical assistance arrives.
- Conduct routine workplace inspections to identify and address safety hazards.
- Perform hazard identification, risk assessments, and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain safety records, analyze trends, and prepare detailed reports for management.
- Educate employees on safety policies, proper equipment use, and accident prevention techniques.
- Conduct fire drills, evacuation exercises, and emergency preparedness training.
- Train and oversee employees on proper operations of forklifts, overhead cranes (up to 100T capacity), aerial lifts, and telehandlers.
- Assist in managing hazardous materials and waste per the Hazardous Material/Waste Management Plan.
- Collaborate with supervisors and team leads to ensure enforcement of safety rules and standards.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; 2–5 years of experience in safety coordination, ideally in heavy steel fabrication, shipbuilding, or defense manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations applicable to industrial and manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience with forklift, crane, and lift operations is highly preferred.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with hazardous material handling and waste management processes is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance as needed.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, squatting, and reaching.
- Occasional crawling, climbing, and working in confined spaces (may require respirator use).
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and other machinery in compliance with safety protocols.
